Melody Peterson is a former reporter for the New York Times, and she spent the last 4 years researching the pharmaceutical industry. Many of the revelations in the book will be quite familiar to those reading this blog, but her research is so extensive that it is worth reading. You can read an excerpt of the book here. And you can listen to the show here.

Listen To NPR's Show on the Drug Industry
I recommend that you listen to this morning's NPR program, "On Point," with Tom Ashbrook, which featured an interview with Melody Peterson, author of the devastating new book, Our Daily Meds: How the Pharmaceutical Companies Transformed Themselves Into Slick Marketing Machines and Hooked the Nation on Prescription Drugs. I was brought on toward the end of the program to participate in the discussion.

Read Ms. Peterson's book and I found it to be insightful and informative.
Life is not a popularity contest.
The books sounds great; just what the dotor ord...er...recommended! I can't wait to read it.
The Medical Profession is in denial about their role in this scheme. But books like this will continue to fan the flames of public discontent and will ultimately lead to reform.
I read the excerpt - chilling to say the least! So are doctors innocent dupes of the drug companies or complicit?
Hmmm...
Innocent dupes or complicit?
In my opinion, they are being duped, but their own narcissism does not allow them to admit that this is happening.
Very much like the politician who fervently believes that his vote cannot be influenced by all of the money that he receives and the lobbyists who fawn over him.
